I wanted to write a post about the toughest decision I’ve ever made. I planned to break that decision down into the steps of the RED Model to show how I followed the logical steps necessary for making a strong decision. But then it occurred to me that I cannot think of a single decision that was extremely difficult for me to make. Is that odd?
Perhaps I come to conclusions too quickly, and that is why I can’t remember a large struggle in the decision making process. Perhaps I draw conclusions too quickly and don’t allow myself to labor over the details (that is definitely not the case- I’m all about the details). Perhaps I’ve just been lucky in life and the appropriate next steps have just appeared at the right time.
I knew what I wanted to do for a living at a very early age. I never changed majors in college. I knew before I even entered college that I would seek a graduate degree. I knew I wanted to work in the business world, and not in academia. Each job that I’ve taken has been an offer I couldn’t refuse and was presented to me via a trusted friend/colleague. Each job also progressed my career in an appropriate way at the appropriate time. Even marrying my husband was the least difficult decision I have ever had to make. Perhaps I just haven’t hit the two big decisions in life yet (buying a house and having a child).
Until I reach that point in life, I want to hear from you: What is the toughest decision you’ve ever had to make? What factors influenced you? Do you feel you made the correct decision?
